FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our Traylors are descendants of the sons of Joseph Traylor, an enslaved man in Troup County, Georgia. His sons are Cary, Sr., Wesley, Elijah, Joseph, and possibly, Jesse Rowe. After Emancipation, the brothers build a life in Covington, Newton County, Georgia. From Covington, we migrated to Atlanta, Alabama, Tennessee, Cleveland, Detroit and beyond.
Absolutely. The white Traylors were a large slaveholding family and moved from Virginia to the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama to Texas and beyond. Enslaved persons were bought, sold and given away as gifts. Thus, if your ancestors were enslaved by the Traylor family we just may be kin, if not by blood, then definitely by love!
Our family holds reunions every 2 years. If you wish to host, put together a Host committee of 6-8 people and let us know you're interested. The Reunion Planning Committee will work with your group to host the reunion. It's a lot of work, though, so make sure you're committed.
